Doomsday Heist in GTA 5: My First Experience

Spread the love

About a month ago, I had talked about a major release that Rockstar was doing for GTA 5 Online. It’s a big piece of content that has garnered major popularity since its release and has helped to make Grand Theft Auto 5 one of the most popular online games in history, 4 years after its original release date.

If you play the game online then I’m sure you already know exactly what the latest downloadable content is. Well today I’m going to talk about my first experience with the Doomsday Heist in GTA 5. I haven’t gotten very deep in yet, but I have gotten my feet wet so to speak with it and I’ve already done some purchases related to the new content. Without further ado, here’s my first experience.

New Facility and Spending More Money

With the release of the Doomsday Heist comes new vehicles, properties, weapons and more. Very similar to the Gunrunning Update, there are things that need to be purchased in order to take part in the new heist missions. First of all, I had to purchase another underground facility. That was definitely not cheap and cost into the millions of dollars of in game money.

Needless to say, I did purchase a few of the Game Shark cards to help out with that. I ended up purchasing the Lago Zancudo Facility simply because of its proximity to the Fort Zancudo military base which is where I also have a hanger where I’ve got 2 fighter jets stored.

The facility underground is quite nice and another place where I can store vehicles at which is a good thing since I’m running out of room at my apartment as well as other garages that I have in GTA 5. It is state-of-the-art and definitely a major step up from the bunker I have for my gunrunning business.

The Planning Room

You can furnish the new underground facilities with different things ranging from security lockers to a prestigious bedroom to a….room….that lets just say allows you to use a new and VERY deadly weapon that has been added to the game. It’s so deadly that no player can survive it no matter what they are in. The only good news about this weapon though is that you can only use it sporadically. I’ll get to more on that in a minute.

What is this new weapon that I speak of? It is a state-of-the-art Orbital Cannon. Once this is installed in the facility, you’ll be able to use a satellite to track any player and then target them if you so choose with the orbital cannon. It does carry a hefty price tag though. It costs $900,000 to add to your facility as well as costing money to use it. It costs $500,000 to manually aim it and $750,000 to use its auto-aim. Once you use it though, it has an actual 48-minute cool down period before you can use it again.

While it is nice to have in your facility, should you ever decide to use it, hopefully you have a pretty steep bank account in the game. I do have the orbital cannon in my facility, but I have yet to actually use it. I do have the money to use it, but I intend to save it in case I come across another online player who makes me really mad and I want to take them out.

New Vehicles

Moving on from the underground facility, there are brand new and awesome vehicles that you can use to cause mayhem across the map. I’ve already purchased one as well as upgraded it as well. The vehicle I am talking about is the Deluxo which is based off of the Back To The Future car, the DeLorian.

The car definitely looks the part, but more importantly it can extend wings out and fly like the movie version can. It can also be upgraded with armor and weapons that include machine guns as well as missiles. I’ve played around with it some and have taken out some other online players with it, but it is not as fast in the air as say a fighter jet and can be vulnerable to other missile fire itself (Like most other vehicles in the game).

Next up is the Stromberg. I don’t have this car yet, but it is definitely on my list to purchase. What makes this car special is that you can take this underwater similar to a submarine. I’m sure that it can be upgraded like the Deluxo where you can have weapons on it. The price tag of this car comes in at a little over $3 million dollars. For me it’ll be worth it though because of one the few unexplored areas left of the game for me is underwater so I’ll be happily using this vehicle to explore the depths of the sea.

Setup for The Doomsday Heist

Now that I’ve talked about some of the vehicles that with this new update, I want to talk about the actual heist missions themselves. When you begin the new heist missions, you’re introduced to a new character who goes by the name of Avon. He believes that someone is trying to start a war and it could be 1 of 4 countries as he fears they are trying to launch a nuclear missile from San Andreas.

He has a state-of-the-art computer that has an intelligence very similar to Jarvis in the Iron Man and Avengers movies. The computer will basically help you out for the heist preps that need to be completed before the actual Heists begin. When I first started them, I had to pay setup costs that were anywhere from $60,000-$90,000. I have millions of dollars in the bank so this wasn’t a problem.

More Vehicle Storage

The first one of these setups required me to steal an ambulance. I didn’t really need a crew at this point to help me out as all I had to do was follow the GPS to a specific location where an ambulance was at. It happened to be at the scene of a car accident on one of the highways out in the countryside. There was also a cop at the scene of the accident and lets just say he was not very happy that I took the ambulance. It was pretty easy though to get rid of the small wanted level I had on me and then bring the ambulance back to the facility. The next setup mission though was a bit more challenging.

The Theft of Deluxos

This setup mission turned out to be a little more challenging. I ended up doing this specific mission twice because the first time I tried it I had run out of time thanks to some not so nice online players.

What this mission required me to do is to go to a specific house, which was the house of a very wealthy person that Avon has connections with, and steal 4 Deluxos that will be needed for a heist later on. The thing is though, this person has a very heavily armed security detail in which I will have to take them out, all the while hoping I take out one of them that has the key to the garage where the Deluxos are stored.

Once I get to the garage, then I have to take each one to an LS Custom’s shop to be resprayed and then driven back to my underground facility. Sure, it sounds easy but once you realize you have to take each vehicle one at a time to get this done, it becomes tedious and time-consuming. Now it won’t show it on screen, but this mission has a time limit.

During my first go round with this mission, I managed to take out the security team and take the first Deluxo over to LS Customs, respray it, and get it back to the facility. I went back to the house to get the second one and after getting it resprayed, I was headed back to the facility, but unfortunately, I never made it back with the second car, because another player decided it would be fun to destroy the car and kill me by coming after me with a jet. Needless to say the car did not survive the attack.

Once I respawned, I had to steal a vehicle, get back over to the house and take the 3rd Deluxo. I was able to do what I needed to do with it and get it back over to my facility, but sadly as soon as I dropped it off, a timer popped onto my screen showing me that I was running out of time and had 30 seconds to finish up. Needless to say I was not able to get the 4th car and complete the mission.

A few days later, I decided to try the mission again, but this time I was in a map all by myself and did not have to contend with other players. I was able to get the Deluxos to my facility and complete the mission, but it still took a lot of time in order to do so. Once I got to the 4th Deluxo, a timer popped up saying I had about 3-4 minutes left to complete it. Fortunately I was well on the way to LS Customs to get it repainted and then I was able to drive as fast as I could back to my facility and complete the mission.

More To Come

Well folks, that was my first experience with the Doomsday Heist in GTA 5. As you can see, I’m just getting started and will definitely get deeper into it. My next setup mission will involve me going into Fort Zancudo and into one of the control towers to I believe hack in and download some vital information.

Something tells me it won’t be that easy even though I have low level clearance to get access to the base. Whatever the case, it should be pretty interesting and challenging. One thing I’m very interested in purchasing very soon is a jet pack that does come with weapons. It looks fun to use, but can become deadly for anyone who wants to try to take me out if I can get used to the controls.

My next vehicle purchase though is definitely going to be the Stromberg. I really want to explore underwater without having to keep coming back up for air and this will be the best thing to do that with.

In the mean time, check out the video below of my second go round with the mission requiring the theft of 4 Deluxos. I will warn you though that the video is a long one, around 30 minutes but that is how long it took me to complete that mission. Check back soon for more of my experiences with the Doomsday Heist.

  1. Whoa! I definitely got to get back in to GTA Online, as it has been a while since I last played it!

The DeLorian alone, is enough for me to jump back in and I think it is interesting to see that the vehicle can fly as well?!

If I remember correctly, I believe Vice City also had a DeLorian that you could somehow get, but that was only for driving. Flying it like in BTTF sounds awesome though!

And that new Orbital Cannon weapon sounds very brutal! I can see why it would cost that much, considering that it can target any player through a satellite!

My question though, is the Orbital Cannon a weapon that you carry around in your weapon wheel or is that like a special weapon?

    1. The Orbital Cannon is a special weapon that you can only use in your underground facility. I have not used it yet just because of the high cost of actually using it, but believe me, I plan to at least once this year. You really should get back to playing GTA 5 online 🙂

  2. Best game ever! I like GTA 4 better for free roaming but GTA 5 has more diverse things to do. Kinda crazy how 4 years after its release its still reeling in new gamers. I heard GTA 6 is supposed to release in 2020 with a map of the entire US but I may be wrong.

    1. There are rumors of GTA 6 having multiple cities that you can drive or fly to at anytime. It will certainly be interesting to see it whenever it eventually does release. In the mean time, I think the developers are hard at work on finishing up their next big title, Red Dead Redemption 2.
