If you’ve ever wanted to see an Apocalypse in a game or be involved in a doomsday scenario, well you may be in luck. There have certainly been games in the past that have featured Apocalyptic stories such as the Fallout Series with its stories of the aftermath of a massive nuclear war or even Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim where dragons return to bring about the end of the world.
Well folks it looks like Rockstar wants to get into the Apocalyptic bandwagon so to speak with new downloadable content that’s coming next week which is titled “The Doomsday Heist”. Thankfully they’ve released a trailer giving everyone an idea of what to expect from this new content and there’s a lot of new stuff they’re introducing.
Take a look at the trailer here below and see what you think. I’ll give a break down of the things I’ve noticed from the trailer and what I’ll be excited about once the new content is released on December 12th.
My Analysis of The Doomsday Heist Trailer
Right from the get go you’ll see new locations as well as new faces and some old ones. You’ll notice Lester, but then you see a new guy who appears to go by the name of Avon. He looks like he could possibly be a very wealthy tech guy. Avon also looks like he’s paranoid about something as he’s telling a group of people that something is coming or about to happen.
Lester says that he’s (Avon) worried that someone is about to start a war and then Avon mentions that he is actually certain someone is trying to do just that. What he then says next is just a little bit chilling because he mentions off potential countries or adversaries who would be willing to do such a thing and it kind of mirrors or has parallels of the state of the world today.
He mentions that it has to be the Russians, North Koreans, Chinese, or even Iran. As you well know, neither of those countries is very friendly towards the US right now and North Korea and the US are threatening war with each other.
Maybe Rockstar wanted to capitalize on this by releasing content based somewhat on the events of the world going on today.
Once Avon starts mentioning those potential adversaries, the scene changes to a group of people who are sporting special gear and weaponry that appear to have night vision as well. It looks like they could be in some kind of high-tech area and I’m fairly certain that is probably part of the Heist that we’ll be engaging in.
Moving on, we saw a VERY large plane with vertical propellers and then what possibly could be the inside of it as well. If you look closely though it seems like it’s a little familiar. What could it be familiar to? Well if you remember when Rockstar released the huge Gunrunning update, part of that update included a large mobile command center.
It now appears that we will have access to a flying mobile command center to launch certain operations from. I think that will definitely be an awesome addition to the online mode, but I have no doubts that this will have a very hefty price tag especially if you want to upgrade or add certain things to it. I do know that the original mobile command center cost me quite a bit of money and so I’m going to have to start building some more if I want to afford some of the new things that’s coming with this content.
Next up you hear Lester talk about needing a ballistic missile launcher to have a chance, but the scene that appears next where he’s talking about that looks really cool. It seems there’s another type of missile launcher that is similar to the ones from Gunrunning that launches multiple missiles at 3 incoming attack choppers and blows ALL of them out of the sky. I can tell you that I definitely want that!
Going on to the next scene, you see a woman start to walk towards Lester who says that this cannot be all traced back to her. My impression with that statement is that she probably gives the go ahead for a mission or idea to be launched, but there can be no traces of it that would link back to her if something were to go wrong. Hmm….does this seem like it could be some kind of government organization that likes to do plausible deniability?
Next we see a VERY heavy duty vehicle of some kind that looks to have guns mounted on the top of it and appears to be very heavily armored, plowing right through a blockade of police vehicles. After that scene, a new one comes up where we see a jet flying above the mountains and then suddenly we see one getting blown out of the sky by very powerful anti-aircraft guns. If you’re fast enough, you’ll even see the pilot flying out of the cockpit area as the rest of the aircraft is blown apart.
Once that part passes you see Lester talking to the lady about being bugged and then a few more action scenes of stuff you’ll likely be doing in the Doomsday Heist. What comes next looks really cool and is a throwback to the 1980s.
There are DeLoreans (or something similar) that you’ll be able to use. If you are familiar with the Back to The Future movie series, then you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. I love the fact that they can fly and they look to be heavily armed as well which will certainly be needed in this type of heist.
Another thing that I notice after that one has passed is that there appear to be either the same kind of cars or maybe James Bond like cars that are under water approaching what appears to be a nuclear sub. In the next scene, there’s an intercontinental ballistic missile in an underground silo that appears it is getting ready to launch. I have no doubt that it is a nuclear armed missile and I’m sure someone is trying to take control of it so they can launch it towards wherever.
In the next few scenes you also see more explosions, but something that caught my eye is in the mission room where I saw the letters “IAA”. This is most likely the game’s version of the CIA and so if the IAA is involved in this, you know that there is something serious about to happen.
There also appears to be a computer AI called Clifford which seems like it could be similar to AI from certain movies such as Iron Man and the Avengers.
The final scene of the trailer shows what appears to be jet packs which will be an awesome addition to the game.
