It has been awhile since I’ve talked about anything regarding The Crew racing game that’s on the PS4. I had done a series awhile back comparing the cities in the game to their real life counterparts. Well now that we know about the cities in the game’s version of the US, what about the other parts of the map. What is there to explore?
There are lots to see in the game outside of the cities and I will show you some of these cool places that actually exist in the real world. What makes it nice is that there are lots of landmarks scattered all over the map. If you find all of them, you’ll get a nice chunk of change.
Right now, I’ll be talking about some of the landmarks in the northeastern part of the map mainly in areas above NYC, but I’ll also make a brief stop in Florida.
Niagara Falls
The first area I want to talk about in regards to exploring and neat places to see in The Crew is in the eastern or northeastern part of the map. There are some cool areas to explore up there and one of the sights to see is Niagara Falls.
Niagara Falls in real life is actually near Buffalo, New York. Now the city does not exist in the game, but some of the surrounding areas are still representative of that particular place.
I’ve never been to Niagara Falls, but I’ve definitely seen it on TV before and one of my biggest memories of it was when it was prominently featured in the movie Superman II. I remember watching it as a kid and seeing Superman flying to the rescue, saving a young boy who had fallen off the railing and was plummeting into the dangerous water below.
One thing I like about finding landmarks is that you can watch a short cinematic video of the cool landmarks that you end up finding. I’ve got a nice one of Niagara Falls that you’ll be able to see in a little bit.
Cape Canaveral
Since I’ve been driving around in a police car, thanks to the Calling All Units expansion pack, I’ll get notifications popping up asking if I would like to participate in a chase. Sometimes I accept the offer while other times I just might turn it down.
I ended up accepting one of them which brought me down all the way to the Florida Keys and I was chasing a suspect (another player) into Miami. The suspect had a much faster car and I was not able to catch them and so they were able to escape.
Since I was now down in Florida, I decided to find some landmarks while I was down there. I looked on the map and found Cape Canaveral and decided to drive there.
For anyone that doesn’t know, Cape Canaveral is the area in Florida where the space shuttles and other rockets launch into space from. The NASA control and command center is located in Houston, Texas but the launch pad is located in Florida.
It’s a really neat area to drive around in and view in the game is at is a nice large complex. You get to see different buildings such as the large hangars where the space shuttles would usually be stored and you’ll get to see a space shuttle on a launch pad in the game.
In real life though, the space shuttles have been retired so we’ll no longer get to see them launch into space. Hopefully NASA will have a nice replacement soon.
Maine Highlands
After doing my Florida excursion and viewing the Cape Canaveral area, I decide to head back to northeast as I know there are some more landmarks to be found up there.
I decide to head back to the area near Niagara Falls and go from there. I’m really glad that The Crew has fast travel in it because I didn’t feel like driving all the way from Florida back up into that particular area.
Once I’m back up in that particular section, I decide to bring up my map again and choose my next destination. I decide to take a nice drive over to Salem as I’m sure that another landmark would be located there especially given its historical significance.
After I plot my course, I start driving to my destination, but on the way there I end up coming to an area called the Maine Highlands and it is a landmark in the game. I’ve never really heard of that area before, but then again I’ve never been to Maine either.
According to Wikipedia, this particular area of Maine is a major tourist region that is in a portion of the Appalachian Mountain Range. The area seems relatively nice in the game, but I didn’t stay long. I just added it to my list of found landmarks and moved on.
Salem
Salem, Massachusetts is well known for the witch trials that took place in the town centuries ago. It also has one of the biggest Halloween celebrations in the country. I’ve actually been there when I visited Boston way back in 1999.
It was a really cool town to visit and I remember visiting the witch museum that is located there and hearing about all the legends and things that made the town famous.
Salem in the game definitely has a feel and look similar to what it does in real life and I like that it is decorated with Halloween decorations around the town when driving through it. When I came to the landmark area in the town, I started the cinematic video of it.
It showed some areas around the town such as a scarecrow with a pumpkin head and an old cemetery with some really cool and old tombstones. I’ll definitely drive to this area again in the future.
Cape Cod
This is the last of the landmarks I visited in the game in this particular day, but still cool to know that Cape Cod is in the game and one of the many landmarks that’s included in it.
Cape Cod is an area of Massachusetts that extends out into the Atlantic Ocean. There are a number of towns and villages located here as well as a number of lighthouses. That’s not surprising considering the area is surrounded by water.
I’ve never been to this area personally as it wasn’t one of the stops when I visited Boston and some of the surrounding areas. The television show known as Dawson’s Creek was based in this area in a fictional town called Capeside although the actual series was filmed in North Carolina.
It’s a nice area in the game and it looks like it is reminiscent of the real thing. I engaged the cinematic video of the landmark in the area and it showed some of the buildings and boats in the area. Once that was done with, I called it a day.
These are just some of the landmarks and neat places to see and visit in the game and there’s a whole lot more to find and just explore in order to get to them. You’ll definitely want to check back as I will be adding more landmark updates in the future. I certainly have more to find in that part of the map, so there is more to explore in that region before I move on to another region.
In the meantime, check out my short video of the cinematic of Niagara Falls in The Crew. It definitely gives you a good idea of what to expect when you find the landmarks in the game.
I love my PS4. Growing up my Dad was totally into racing games and RPG’s so I always found myself playing them too. I don’t know if you remember Sega Rally Championship but that was my game. When you look back to those games of the past and compare them to the graphics and effects of new games it always blows my mind how far these games have come. The Crew has some really good locations and it is fun. Thank you for the great information and keep gaming.
You are definitely correct, the games have certainly come a long way from where they were and they just keep getting better and better. Now with news of The Crew 2 coming, it will be interesting to see what improvements they make on that over the original. In the mean time, you ought to give The Crew a try yourself. There’s just nothing like a leisurely drive across America 🙂
