Far Cry 5 News

Here’s some Far Cry 5 news that may be of interest. It has been mentioned before that this new game in the series will no longer contain a mini-map. Well, the developers have explained why and what they want you to get out of the open world experience in Far Cry 5.

According to the lead writer of the game with an interview at GamingBolt, they wanted to give the player a true sense of exploration. “Where do I go? What do I do now?”

The lead writer also said that the want the player to have more interactions with the NPCs (non playable characters) and other people. Here’s a little bit more from that interview:

“As far as minimaps go, Holmes said their removal was to ensure players aren’t always “staring at a little corner” of their screen asking what’s new in the world.

“You’ve got to actually pay attention to the world and making sure that the art side is doing a good job of making sure there are good landmarks to orient yourself,” Holmes elaborated. “That it becomes more of less the game guiding you on where to go, and more of you saying, ‘where do I want to go, what do I want to do today?’”

Holmes’ explanations for both decisions make sense, even if they may be frustrating for players who enjoy having their hands held or looking at minimaps.”

I think that is a good idea. It will definitely challenge you to make great use of the game world and focus very heavily on exploration. I can’t tell you how many times I looked at that little mini-map in GTA V instead of truly doing exploration.

This isn’t the only game coming from Ubisoft that is doing away with mini-maps. The new Assassins Creed game will get rid of mini-maps which I think will be awesome especially in its new setting which looks to take place among the Pyramids of Egypt.

In preparation of Far Cry 5, I recently picked up a copy of Far Cry 4 and you’ll want to keep in mind that I have never played a game in this series before so it will certainly be an entirely new experience for me.

I’ve just installed the game and watched its opening cut scene, but I haven’t done any of the game play yet.

Far Cry 5 is slated to come out next year so you’ll definitely want to stay tuned for that and check back for more updates as there will definitely be plenty more coming.

I really like the fact that the game will take place in the United States even if it’s in Montana. It definitely has beautiful scenery there especially when the mountains come into play and great wildlife. I can’t wait to start hunting bears, dear, elk, and whatever other animals the developers decided to put in the game.

What are your thoughts on the removal of the mini-map of the game? Do you think that was a good idea in order to encourage more exploration or do you think that could end up actually frustrating you? Feel free to post your comments below!

  1. HI and thank you for the information. I am a mother of 4 children, 3 of them are boys. They are at the age where they are now interested in gaming. I do not know anything about the games, content, or tools to play.
This site is easy to navigate and very informative on all the products. I will defiantly use as tool when holidays come around.

    Thanks
